At Koia, it’s our mission to democratise access to alternative assets.
The world’s wealthiest have invested in assets such as luxury cars, art, fine wine and private companies for hundreds of years. The same opportunities have remained out of reach to most people. Our goal is to change this.
Koia was started in early 2021 by Richard Draper, Ben Riazy and Iris ten Teije. All three co-founders have spent most of their careers working in banking and fintech and their experience across mobile app development, marketing and wealth management makes them the perfect team to bring a new investment app to market.
As co-founders, we share similar motivations that brought us together. All of us have been investing in stocks and cryptocurrencies for years. Great returns over the past few years combined with immense volatility prompted us to diversify our portfolios and add assets that could offer stable returns. Our quest led us to consider alternative investment opportunities like fine wine & whisky. However, the overwhelming number of options in terms of what to buy, a lack of transparent and trustworthy information and a need to store these physical assets made it impossible to get started.
We believe that every investor should be able to invest in what they know and love.
Alternative assets provide unique benefits, such as a possibility to grow wealth and diversify your investment portfolio.
10 years ago, it was harder than it is today to get access to the stock market. Brokers took large commissions for every trade, minimum balances were higher and there was no such thing as buying fractional shares. Fast-forward to today and new technology and zero-commission trading apps have made investing in the stock market easier and cheaper than ever. This has led to a massive increase in the amount of retail investors who now have the ability to make their money work harder for them.
We plan to be the driving force behind a similar revolution that is just getting started in the alternative assets space. We want to enable investors to get started with small amounts of capital, take away the hassle of storage, insurance and authentication and deliver an intuitive user experience. We envision that in the future, buying and selling a fraction of a Rolex or case of fine wine will be as easy as buying a fractional share in Apple.
We believe Koia is going to fundamentally change the way people invest and we aim to onboard millions of users over the years to come. We’re at the right place, at the right time. We believe consumers increasingly want to spend and invest their money in things they believe in and are passionate about. Whether it comes to buying sustainable products, investing in female-led companies or making money by flipping sneakers on StockX, the sneaker stock exchange valued at over $2 billion dollars.
More importantly, we’re seeing a strong movement of retail investors who, like us, want to take matters into their own hands and get access to all opportunities that have been available to professional investors and high net worth individuals for decades.
Putting all the pieces together we came up with Koia, a platform that allows anyone to invest in alternative assets. We’re starting off with tangible assets like fine wine, whisky, watches and Pokémon Cards.
At Koia we are leading the next wave of financial democratisation in finance, enabling anyone to align their passion with their investments, opening up opportunities previously unavailable.
We’re currently busy building our waiting list and mobile app and plan to launch a first version to a limited number of users within the next few months. We’re in the early stages of building Koia and we want to build it with and for you, our community. If you have any ideas or suggestions, we’d love to hear from you at firstname.lastname@example.org and one of our founders will be ready to chat to you!
At Koia, we allow you to start investing in tangible assets for as little as £50, via fractional ownership. Our experts make sure to source and buy the best assets, and we take care of authentication, storage and insurance. All of the benefits, with none of the hassle.
